Othello Richards serves as a full-time Assistant Professor in the School of Communications at Brigham Young University, where he teaches news media courses and maintains an active research agenda focused on media consumption and technology.

- Master of Arts in Mass Communications from Brigham Young University
- Doctor of Philosophy from Texas Tech University
Richards' research examines cognitive processing of television news, interactive media design, immersive journalism techniques, and visual attention mechanisms in digital environments. He has significantly contributed to the National Science Foundation-funded project "Cracking the Code: Millennial Engagement with Science Media" through collaboration with KQED public broadcasting, investigating generational interactions with scientific content.
Prior to academia, Richards accumulated over a decade of broadcast journalism experience as an on-air reporter and associate producer across Utah and Washington markets, covering crime, politics, and emergency events while operating solo production equipment. His professional highlights include a U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds media flight experiencing 9G forces in an F-16 fighter jet.
Richards maintains professional connections through his NSF-funded research collaboration with KQED and applies his industry expertise to develop practical curricula. Outside academia, he pursues mountain biking, road cycling, and professional-grade family videography for his wife and four children.
