Prof. Ossi Naukkarinen holds a Professorship at Aalto University's School of Art, Design and Architecture. Effective September 2025, he will assume the role of Vice Rector for Research at the University of the Arts Helsinki. Previously, he served as Vice Rector for Research at Aalto (2018–2023) and Vice-Dean of the School of Art, Design, and Architecture (2012–2018). His research focuses on aesthetics, including everyday environments, environmental design, and the academic discipline's epistemology. He explores visual art, urban artification processes, and the digital humanities' transformative potential.
Key publications appear in Contemporary Aesthetics, Aisthesis, and the Nordic Journal of Aesthetics, with translations into Spanish, Slovenian, Italian, and Chinese. His 2012 article earned the Kone Foundation's Vuoden tiedekynä award in social sciences. Ossi has organized interdisciplinary initiatives like exhibitions on media change in art history and workshops on FAIR data ontologies, reflecting his commitment to accessible cultural engagement through digital innovation.
Leadership roles include project coordination for the Digital Access to Library Content initiative and participation in international dialogues on museum restitution via film series and lectures. His current work bridges aesthetic theory with digital methodologies, addressing societal challenges in consumer societies and curatorial practices.
