Oscar Quiroz serves as an Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre at Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance, bringing extensive international experience from his Honduran heritage and bilingual performance career across Central America.
His academic foundation includes:
- BA in Theatre from University of Guadalajara
- MFA in Acting from Michigan State University
Professor Quiroz's research integrates Musical Theatre pedagogy with Latin American performance traditions, emphasizing cross-cultural voice/movement techniques. His award-winning direction of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz's "Love is the Greater Labyrinth" demonstrates scholarly engagement with historical Spanish-language works, while his decade-long collaboration with Teatro Memorias reflects commitment to regional theatrical exchange.
His professional recognition includes:
- Varg Sullivan Distinguished Graduate Award for directing excellence
As an active industry participant, he maintains memberships in the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and Voice and Speech Trainers Association. His pre-Oakland career featured seven years teaching at Honduras' National School of Dramatic Art and extensive touring with Teatro Memorias through Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua in productions spanning Shakespearean classics to contemporary Spanish-language works like "Te Juro Juana, Que Tengo Ganas".
