Oscar Gerdner, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Child Psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center, part of the Yale School of Medicine. He holds dual board certifications in general and child/adolescent psychiatry, with advanced training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and mentalization-based treatment. Dr. Gerdner completed his medical degree at the University of Connecticut, followed by residency at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He also earned a psychology degree from Georgetown University.
His research focuses on psychotherapy techniques (e.g., CBT, DBT), anxiety disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. He authored/co-authored book chapters and peer-reviewed commentaries, including work on the My Anxiety Handbook. Dr. Gerdner teaches an undergraduate course on mindfulness neuroscience and history at Yale.
He practices clinically at the Elmport Group in Darien, Connecticut, emphasizing holistic care integrating biological, psychological, and social perspectives. His honors include the Gold Humanism Honor Society (2014) and the John Schowalter Chief Resident Award (2020).
