Orly Ravid is an Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Biederman Entertainment and Media Law Institute at Southwestern Law School. She holds a B.A. from Columbia University (1993) and a J.D. from Southwestern Law School (2014). With over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry, her expertise spans film distribution, licensing, production, and business affairs. Previously, she served as Senior Counsel at TUBI (a FOX subsidiary), an entertainment attorney at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP, and ran The Film Collaborative (TFC).
Her professional engagements include advising Sundance’s Artist Services/Transparency Project, serving as an associate programmer for documentary films at Sundance, and contributing to industry publications like Selling Your Film Without Selling Your Soul and How Not to Sign a Film Contract. She frequently speaks at global festivals and conferences, including Cannes, SXSW, and IDFA.
Ravid teaches courses such as Drafting Entertainment Industry Contracts, Entertainment & the Arts Legal Clinic, and Financing & Distributing Independent Films. Her research focuses on VOD strategies, rights splitting, and navigating the evolving entertainment industry landscape. She is committed to empowering creators to sustainably reach global audiences through innovative legal frameworks.
