Orian Zakai is an Associate Professor at George Washington University, specializing in Hebrew and Israeli literature and culture. Her research focuses on gender and nation dynamics, intersectionality, embodiment, and the Zionist imagination.

Her work intersects cultural studies, feminist theory, and literary analysis, particularly examining identity and emotion in post-October 7 Israeli society. Recent publications include a book on gender in Zionist narratives and a journal article exploring queer politics in Hebrew literature. She has been awarded the 2025–2026 New Frontiers in Contemporary Jewish Life Fellowship for her research.
Zakai is also an accomplished novelist and poet, with her Hebrew novel Nefilat Sukar (2024) and poetry in Israeli journals like Granta and Tel Aviv Review of Books.
