Orhun Kara is affiliated with the Department of Mathematics at Izmir Institute of Technology (IYTE) within the Science Faculty. He holds a PhD in mathematics from Bilkent University (2003), with research focusing on code construction on modular curves under Prof. Alexander Klyachko and Prof. Serge Vlăduţ at IML. His work since 2000 has centered on cryptography and cryptanalysis, particularly in symmetric encryption, stream ciphers, and security protocols.
Research interests include advanced cryptanalysis techniques, lightweight cryptography, and cryptographic hardware architectures. Notable contributions involve AES security analysis, stream cipher design, and vulnerability assessments of authentication algorithms like COLM. He has also engaged in international collaborations through roles such as NATO panelist and OECD delegate.
Publications emphasize practical cryptanalysis, tradeoff attacks, and cryptographic primitive design. His recent work includes studies on impossible differential attacks and energy-efficient hardware implementations. Kara’s academic contributions span both theoretical foundations and applied security solutions.
