Orhan Torul is an Associate Professor of Economics at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland (2013) and has held academic positions at institutions including the University of Chicago and the University of Oslo. His research focuses on macroeconomics, economic inequality, political economy, and public policy, with notable work on intergenerational mobility, fiscal policy, and the distributional consequences of economic policies. Torul has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Boğaziçi University Outstanding Achievement in Research Award (2023) and the Science Academy Young Scientists Award (BAGEP, 2023).
Education includes a B.S. in Business Administration from Middle East Technical University (2006), M.A. degrees from Boğaziçi University (2009) and the University of Maryland (2011), and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland (2013). His research has been supported by grants including Boğaziçi University BAP projects and TÜBİTAK funding. Torul has also served as Vice Chair of the Department of Economics and Director of the Center for Economics and Econometrics at Boğaziçi University.
