Oren Fader serves as a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music since 1994, teaching classical guitar and chamber music, and will join the Contemporary Performance Program faculty starting in the 2024–2025 academic year. He additionally directs classical guitar programs at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and Montclair State University, while maintaining teaching positions at Borough of Manhattan Community College.
His educational foundation includes an undergraduate degree from SUNY Purchase and a Master of Music from Florida State University, where he studied under renowned instructors David Starobin and Bruce Holzman. Fader's career spans over 30 years as an internationally acclaimed performer specializing in both classical and electric guitar repertoire.
Fader's research and performance interests center on Classical Guitar interpretation, Chamber Music collaboration, and the advancement of Contemporary Music through premieres of over 200 new works. His innovative work with the Bowers Fader Duo has significantly expanded the repertoire for mezzo-soprano and guitar, commissioning over 25 world premieres of New American Art Songs. His expertise extends to electric guitar performance in film scores and cross-genre collaborations.
As a performer, Fader has collaborated with elite ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. His international presence includes State Department-sponsored tours across Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Central Asia, plus festival appearances at Tanglewood, Aspen, and Mostly Modern. Notable concerto performances feature the Villa-Lobos Guitar Concerto with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Rodrigo's 'Concierto de Aranjuez' with multiple symphonies.
Fader's recording legacy includes the solo albums 'Another’s Fandango' (produced by Grammy Award winner Adam Abeshouse) and 'First Flight', alongside the Bowers Fader Duo's critically acclaimed 'Between Us All'. His film contributions appear in 'Everything Is Illuminated' and 'Little Women', demonstrating his versatility across performance media.
Through his directorship of guitar programs at three institutions and extensive chamber music mentorship, Fader shapes the next generation of musicians with a curriculum emphasizing technical mastery, historical context, and contemporary innovation in guitar performance.
