Onur Kiliç is a PhD candidate and researcher in Gender Studies at Lund University, specializing in LGBTQI+ digital activism with a regional focus on Turkey. He is affiliated with the Department of Gender Studies and serves as a co-researcher in the "TechnAct" project, a research environment examining gender, sexualities, transnational communities and digital technologies across Lund University and University of Gothenburg.
His research interests span LGBTQI+ Activism, Networked Resistances, Queer Theory, and Transnational Social Movements, with methodological expertise in digital ethnography focusing on online-offline entanglements in activist cultures. His work critically examines sexual citizenship practices, queer resistance in authoritarian contexts, and transformations in digital spaces for marginalized communities.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong thematic focus on how digital technologies reshape queer activism, particularly examining resistance practices in Turkey during pandemic times and exploring concepts like "Lubunya" (a Turkish LGBTQI+ concept) assemblages. His work bridges queer theory with empirical studies of digital activism, showing how online spaces create new forms of community and resistance while navigating challenges of visibility, surveillance, and authoritarian control.
As an educator, Kiliç has taught across multiple institutions including Lund University and University of Gothenburg, with courses covering transdisciplinary gender studies, transgender feminism, homonationalism, and digital ethnography at both bachelor's and master's levels.
His methodological approach combines queer theory with digital ethnography, emphasizing the importance of understanding online-offline entanglements in contemporary activist practices. His dissertation work represents a significant contribution to understanding how digital technologies transform queer resistance in challenging political contexts.
