Onur Emre Onat

Onur Emre Onat is Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator at Bezmialem Vakif University's Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology. His research focuses on identifying disease-causing mutations through genomic analysis pipelines integrating bioinformatics, statistical genomics, and machine learning.

Research areas include genetic basis of metabolic disorders (obesity, PCOS), neurodegenerative conditions (Parkinson's, essential tremor), and behavioral phenotypes (ADHD, sleep disorders). He directs the ONAT Lab, supervising doctoral candidates in molecular biology projects. Publications appear in Cell, Nature Genetics, and PNAS.

Honors include Rockefeller University fellowships and TUBITAK grants. He established Turkey's largest genome database through international collaborations.
