Onur Asan

Dr. Onur Asan is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies at the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science, Stevens Institute of Technology, in the Department of Systems and Enterprises. His research focuses on applying human factors engineering and human-computer interaction principles to improve healthcare systems, emphasizing patient-centered care, technology integration, and workforce well-being. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in human factors.

Research Interests: Dr. Asan’s work addresses socio-technical challenges in healthcare, including the impact of new technologies on workflows, patient safety, and clinician-patient communication. Key areas include ambulatory care systems, care coordination, and the role of AI in clinical decision support. His studies also explore the psychological and organizational factors influencing healthcare professionals’ behavior during crises like the pandemic.

Grants & Funding: His research has been funded by NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, and CTSI, supporting projects on AI in healthcare, clinician well-being, and patient engagement. He chairs the Graduate Curriculum Committee and Search Committees at Stevens, and contributes to editorial and review roles in journals like Journal of Human Factors in Healthcare and Applied Ergonomics.
