Ondrej Gavalda is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He specializes in graphic design, visual identity, and book design, with notable work in experimental typography and modular fonts. He holds a Master's degree from VŠVU, following studies at the Slovak University of Technology and an internship in Germany.
Education: BSc from Secondary Industrial Graphic School (1998–2002), studies at the Faculty of Architecture (STU), and completion of a Master’s in Graphic Design at VŠVU under Prof. Stanislav Stankovič.
Research focuses on visual communication systems, typography, and cultural heritage documentation. His projects include the award-winning Face to Face font system (2009 Rector’s Award) and the Trnava Triennial visual identity (2011 National Design Award).
Key awards include the Minister of Education Award (2007), Rector’s Award (2009), and National Design Award (2011). His work spans books (e.g., Divadlo prekračuje hranice), exhibitions (e.g., Black Holes × Betliar Museum), and corporate identities (Liptovar, Days of Architecture).
He collaborates widely, including with the Theatre Institute on multimedia projects and with creative studios like Made by Vaculik. His design practice bridges traditional and digital media, emphasizing cultural narratives and innovative typography.
