Omi Acosta is an Adjunct Professor of Sports Psychology and Head Coach of Men's Wrestling at Life University. His dual roles integrate academic instruction in positive psychology with championship-level athletic leadership. He holds two master's degrees: an M.S. in Positive Psychology (Life University, 2020) and an M.S. in Recreation and Sport Management (Ohio University, 2016), complemented by a B.A. in Spanish & Criminal Justice from Grand View University (2013).
Acosta's academic and coaching focus centers on Sports Psychology, Positive Psychology, and athlete development. His LUCHA philosophy—emphasizing resilience through adversity—shapes both classroom teaching and athletic training, using wrestling as a transformative tool for leadership development. This approach aligns with Life University's core values of service and personal growth.
His distinguished coaching career includes the 2021 NAIA National Championship, four consecutive national runner-up finishes (2022-2025), and the 2024 NWCA National Duals title. Awards include multiple Coach of the Year honors and athletic Hall of Fame inductions at Waubonsee Community College and Grand View University. Under his guidance, Life University's wrestling program produced 12 national champions and 66 All-Americans.
