Omari H. Swinton, Ph.D., is a Professor of Economics at Howard University, serving as Chair of the Economics Department, Director of Graduate Studies, and Division Chair for Social Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a B.S. from Florida A&M University (2001) and a Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University (2007). His research focuses on labor economics, education, and the role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in fostering economic mobility and diversity in academia. He directs the AEA Summer Training Program to increase diversity in economics and co-owns a Right at Home Franchise recognized for excellence. Swinton has secured millions in grants, including a $2.75M NSF grant to broaden participation in economics. His awards include the 2022 Impactful Mentor Award and the 2012 Sigma Man of the Year.
