معرفی
Dr. Omar Albagha is a Reader in Genetics at the Centre for Genomic and Experimental Medicine, affiliated with the Institute of Genetics and Cancer at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on identifying genetic and epigenetic factors contributing to bone diseases such as osteoporosis and Paget’s disease of bone, utilizing advanced techniques like genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and functional genomics.
- Education
- BSc in Biomedical Sciences (First Class), University of Jordan (1996)
- MSc in Medical Molecular Genetics, University of Aberdeen (1997)
- PhD in Medical Sciences (Genetics), University of Aberdeen (2001)
His work has led to the discovery of seven new genetic variants associated with Paget’s disease, which also serve as predictors of disease severity. He currently holds a European Research Council (ERC) consolidator grant and collaborates with leading experts like Professor Stuart Ralston and Professor Donald Salter.
- Scientific Awards
- Iain Boyle Prize (2011), European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS)
Dr. Albagha’s research group includes Sachin Wani (PhD student) and Ariane Willems (Postdoctoral Scientist). He is actively involved in functional studies of genetic variants using in vivo and in vitro methods to elucidate disease mechanisms.
