Dr. Omar Aboelazayem is a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Teesside University (SCEDT Engineering). He holds a PhD from London South Bank University (LSBU) and has held roles at the University of Nottingham, University of Leeds, and The British University in Egypt. His research focuses on sustainable processes, waste valorisation for biofuels/chemicals, and process optimization. Key projects include FermoChar (waste-to-char materials for NetZero) and CalyChar (CO₂-capturing hydrochars). He has led/ collaborated on projects involving bio-based polymers, asphalt bio-binders, and industrial waste recycling.
Education: PhD in Chemical Process and Energy Engineering (LSBU), MSc/BSc in Chemical and Renewable Energy Engineering (The British University in Egypt).
Research interests span integrated bioprocess development, thermochemical/biochemical conversion of biomass, process energy integration, and life cycle assessment. His work emphasizes reducing carbon/water footprints via waste utilization and process optimization. Recent publications address catalyst-free biodiesel production, lignin-derived bio-oils, and water hyacinth valorisation.
He leads initiatives to commercialize sustainable technologies, including biopolymer production from insects and bio-based asphalt binders. Collaborations involve academia and industry for NetZero solutions.
