Professor Oliver de Groot is a Full Professor and Chair in Macroeconomics at the University of Liverpool Management School, serving as Head of the Economics Subject Group since 2019. He holds a prestigious Senior George Fellow position at the Bank of England during the 2024-25 sabbatical. Previously, he served as a Principal Economist at the European Central Bank (ECB), Lecturer at the University of St Andrews, and Economist at the U.S. Federal Reserve Board. He earned MA, MPhil, and PhD degrees from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Mead Research Fellow at Emmanuel College.
His research focuses on monetary economics, macro-finance, asset pricing, and computational methods. His work has been published in top journals like Econometrica, the Economic Journal, and the Journal of Monetary Economics. He has guest-edited a special issue in the Journal of Macroeconomics and consulted for institutions such as the IMF and central banks in multiple countries.
Professional activities include roles as Research Affiliate at CEPR, Visiting Research Scholar at the Central Bank of Ireland, and External Examiner for Cambridge’s MPhil/MRes Economics program. Teaching activities include instructing the Economics of Banking module and supervising PhD students in Money-Macro-Finance topics.
