Dr. Oliver Sutcliffe is a Reader and Director of MANDRAKE at Manchester Metropolitan University's School of Natural Sciences. He is a research-active pharmaceutical chemist specializing in the synthesis, analysis, and harm reduction of illicit drugs and New Psychoactive Substances (NPS). His work has positioned Manchester Met at the forefront of coordinated, interdisciplinary research to combat global drug challenges, with his research being embedded into policy documents such as the GM Drug & Alcohol Strategy (2019-21) and the Greater Manchester Police Drug Strategy (2024-2025).

As Director of MANDRAKE (Manchester Drug Analysis and Knowledge Exchange), he leads England's first publicly-funded permanent city-centre based testing and harm reduction facility, operating since 2016. This initiative supports open science and agencies working toward safeguarding public health and wellbeing through rapid chemical analysis of substances.
