Oliver Hallich

Prof. Dr. Oliver Hallich is a Professor of Philosophy specializing in Practical Philosophy at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Faculty of Humanities. He serves as the Managing Director of the Department of Philosophy and leads the Practical Philosophy Working Group (WG Hallich). His academic journey includes visiting professorships at the University of Liverpool (2019), University of Lublin (2016), and London School of Economics (2010–2011). He holds a Heisenberg Fellowship from the German Research Foundation (2009–2012) and a PhD in Old German Studies from the University of Hamburg (1995).

Research focuses on Applied Ethics (Bioethics), Metaethics, Social Philosophy, and classical philosophers like Plato, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche. Recent publications include works on anti-natalism, social philosophy, and the philosophy of language. His current research explores ethical challenges of digital health technologies, emphasizing value conflicts in healthcare digitization.

Teaching responsibilities include courses in Practical Philosophy and Ethics. Office hours are held via Zoom during Summer Semester 2025 (Fridays 2–3 PM).
