Dr. Oliver Bäumchen leads the research group on Dynamics of Complex Fluids at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization. His work explores fundamental fluid dynamics phenomena including thin film stability, micro/nanofluidic boundary conditions, and interactions between liquids and soft materials.
Notable research includes light-switchable microorganism adhesion, curvature-guided motility in confinement, and slip effects in polymer films. His group develops innovative measurement techniques like micropipette force sensors for cellular-scale biomechanics.
Dr. Bäumchen holds a Ph.D. from Saarland University and completed postdoctoral research at McMaster University. He has held visiting positions at ESPCI Paris and teaches specialized topics in complex fluids physics.
