Prof. Dr. Oliver Alexy is a Professor of Innovation and Organization Design at the TUM School of Management, Technical University of Munich. He holds a degree in Information Systems from the University of Regensburg (2005) and a doctorate in Management from TUM (2008). His academic journey includes postdoctoral research at Imperial College London (2011), guest research stints at Harvard Business School, MIT (2008), and Politecnico di Milano (2011). He joined TUM in 2012 as an Assistant Professor of Strategic Entrepreneurship and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2017, later becoming a full Professor.
His research focuses on designing organizations to manage uncertainty, innovation ecosystems, and new forms of organizing. Key themes include collaboration strategies, knowledge disclosure, and framing tactics for organizational legitimacy and innovation. His work spans academic and practitioner outlets such as Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Harvard Business Review.
Teaching interests include organizational design, open innovation, entrepreneurial strategy, and social entrepreneurship across undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs. He serves as co-editor of Strategic Organization and sits on editorial boards of leading management journals.
Awards include the Outstanding Teaching Award (Imperial College, 2011) and finalist recognitions for his dissertation work in 2009. His research has been supported by grants and collaborations with global firms and institutions, reflecting a strong industry-academia nexus.
