Olive Vassell

Olive Vassell is an Associate Professor at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Division of Arts & Humanities. She specializes in Digital Media and has established expertise in Black Britain and Black Europe, with a focus on qualitative research methodologies.

Her research explores Black European memory cultures, historical representation, and innovations in journalism education. She has contributed to significant publications like Mapping Black Europe and created international partnerships, including with the Institut Supérieur de l’Information et de la Communication in Rabat, Morocco.

Vassell has received multiple recognitions, including the 2024 Accomplishment in Research/Scholarship Award from UDC. She serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Fulbright Specialist Program and Grant Reviewer for Humanities D.C., while also supervising students in investigative journalism courses.
