Olgun Guvench is a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Administration at the University of Maine's Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. from The Scripps Research Institute (2005), an M.D. from Columbia University (2001), and a B.A. from Harvard University (1997). His research focuses on biomolecular simulation, particularly proteoglycans and protein-carbohydrate interactions. He received the NIH Kirschstein Postdoctoral Fellowship (2008) and has contributed to advancements in drug discovery and molecular modeling.
Research Interests:
- Structure-based modeling of cytochrome P450 (CYP) metabolism
- Molecular modeling of proteoglycans
- Protein-carbohydrate interactions in molecular recognition
His work integrates computational methods with experimental biology to understand complex biomolecular systems. Recent studies include ligand-based protein charge prediction and hyaluronan structural dynamics.
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Current Pharmaceutical Design, Drug Discovery Today, and Molecules. Key themes include glycobiology, molecular dynamics simulations, and drug design.
Awards: NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (F32), highlighting his contributions to postdoctoral research in biomolecular simulation.
