Olgun Guvench

Dr. Olgun Guvench is Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Administration at the University of New England, where he teaches foundational and applied sciences to Pharm.D. students. He holds both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees and completed NIH Kirschstein postdoctoral training in biomolecular simulation at the University of Maryland.

His research focuses on developing computational methods for biomolecular simulation, particularly in force field optimization for carbohydrates, cytochrome P450 enzymes, and protein-carbohydrate interactions. Current investigations examine conformational dynamics of glycosaminoglycans, lipid bilayer effects on enzyme function, and solvent interactions in buried binding sites.

Recent publications demonstrate advances in polarizable force fields for monosaccharides, cytochrome P450 conformational analysis, and computational enzymology methodologies. His work integrates molecular dynamics simulations with experimental data for biological insights.
