Olga Göransson is a Professor at Lund University, specifically affiliated with the Department of Experimental Medical Science and the EXODIAB: Excellence of Diabetes Research in Sweden. As a Principal Investigator and Research Team Manager, she focuses on protein phosphorylation mechanisms in cellular signaling, particularly their role in type 2 diabetes and cancer pathogenesis.
Her research explores the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) family and salt-inducible kinases (SIK1-3) in adipose tissue regulation. Notable work includes demonstrating SIK2 downregulation in obese individuals and investigating its role in diabetes development. She also examines AMPK as a therapeutic target for diabetes interventions.
Recent publications highlight her contributions to understanding
- kinase signaling in adipocytes
- metabolic regulation in white adipose tissue
- inflammatory cytokine effects on kinase activity
As Vice Head of Department (January 2021-2023) and current Assistant Head of Department, she oversees PhD studies. She teaches
- PBL courses in "Knowledge and Learning" and "Molecule to Tissue"
- PhD-level "Generic Knowledge and Skills" portfolio course
