Oleksandra Kokhan

Oleksandra Kokhan is a Research Fellow at the Ukraine Research Network within ZOiS (Centre for East European and International Studies). She holds a Master's degree in Sociology and Social Anthropology from Central European University in Vienna and completed a solidarity program at the University of Helsinki. Her past roles include research assistant at the Finnish Network for Birth and Childbearing Research (BIRRES) and mentor for the Invisible University for Ukraine (IUFU).

Kokhan's research explores the intersection of war, gender, and aging through anthropological and economic lenses. Her primary interests include:

• Value anthropology and political economy
• Post-socialist societal transitions
• Gender dynamics in Eastern Europe
• Comparative historical analysis
• Community resilience in conflict zones

Her current project, Wrinkles on the Face of War, investigates how Ukrainian women over 60 sustain communities through unpaid care work during the Russo-Ukrainian war, aiming to strengthen social cohesion through visibility of diverse experiences.

She leads research at the Ukraine Research Network@ZOiS, focusing on conflict-related social dynamics.
