Iryna Shuvalova is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages. Her academic roles include teaching courses on Ukrainian studies, Eastern European literature, and language instruction. She holds a PhD in Slavonic Studies from the University of Cambridge (2020) and an MA in Comparative Literature from Dartmouth College (2014), supported by Gates Cambridge and Fulbright scholarships.
Her research focuses on political imaginaries in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, particularly analyzing identity narratives in the Russo-Ukrainian War through popular music and culture. Current projects explore the symbolic construction of 'Russianness' under Russian occupation. Shuvalova is also an award-winning poet and translator, with poetry collections translated into 25+ languages. Her 2020 book Kaminsadlis won Ukraine's Litakcent award, while her 2024 collection Endsongs is hailed as a 'future classic.'
