معرفی
Oleg Shupliakov is a Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet. His research focuses on molecular and biophysical mechanisms of neuronal membrane trafficking, particularly synaptic vesicle dynamics and their links to neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's. He is the group leader of the 'Neuronal membrane trafficking' research group.
Shupliakov holds a PhD from 1996 and became a Docent at Karolinska Institutet in 1998. His work integrates molecular biology, genetics, and advanced imaging to study how synaptic vesicle cycles interact with disease pathologies, emphasizing α-synuclein-related mechanisms and liquid phase separation in nerve terminals.
He has secured grants from the Swedish Research Council, Parkinsonfonden, and the Russian Science Foundation for projects like 'Liquid-to-solid state transitions of synuclein in synapses' and 'Molecular links between synaptic membrane trafficking and neurodegenerative diseases'.
His research group explores models such as lamprey spinal axons, Drosophila neuromuscular junctions, and mammalian neurons to dissect mechanisms underlying synaptic dysfunction in synucleinopathies. Current interests include mitochondrial dysfunction in dopamine neurons and therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative disorders.
