Ole De Backer

Ole De Backer is a Clinical Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen, and a senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen. He holds board certification in Cardiology across Belgium, Denmark, and the Netherlands, reflecting his international medical standing.

His research interests focus on structural interventional cardiology, with particular expertise in multimodality cardiac imaging applications throughout structural heart interventions and the development of novel interventional techniques. His clinical work centers on structural heart disease, aortic disease, and atrial fibrillation management.

Prof. De Backer serves as editor and reviewer for leading cardiology journals including J Am Coll Cardiol, Eur Heart J, Circulation, and EuroIntervention. His research has secured significant funding from major medical device companies and foundations including Abbott, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, Novo Nordisk Fonden, and Edwards Lifesciences through trials such as NOTION-2, NOTION-4, and HOSPITAVI.

His clinical expertise encompasses transcatheter treatment of valvular heart disease, left atrial appendage closure, patent foramen ovale closure, and transcatheter endovascular aortic repair. He maintains active collaborations with international research teams across multiple European countries.
