Olav Hohmeyer

Prof. Dr. Olav Hohmeyer is a Professor for Energy and Resource Economics at the University of Flensburg, Germany. He is affiliated with the Department of Energy and Environmental Management under the Interdisciplinary Institute for Environmental, Social and Human Sciences. Hohmeyer also serves as Vice Chair for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group III and is a member of the German Advisory Council on the Environment.

His work spans climate economics, offshore wind energy, and decentralized energy systems.

Hohmeyer received the Fraunhofer Special Prize in 1991 for his doctoral work on the social costs of energy use and is recognized in Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. He coordinated the IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy and Climate Change Mitigation (2011) and advised governments in Barbados and Seychelles on renewable energy transitions.

Notable contributions include teaching Sustainable Energy Systems, leading energy policy grants, and directing international climate research teams. He established the Energy and Environmental Management degree program at Flensburg University and mentored doctoral students globally from Ethiopia, China, South Africa, and the Caribbean.
