Olaf Morgenstern is a Principal Scientist at NIWA's Wellington Science Centre, specializing in atmosphere and climate research. He has extensive experience in atmospheric chemistry and climate modeling, with a focus on global and regional climate predictions across seasonal to centennial timescales.
- Educated with a PhD in Meteorology from ETH Zurich and a Diploma in Physics from Freiburg University.
His research spans the development and application of Earth system models, including contributions to the Deep South National Science Challenge and the IPCC 6th Assessment Report. He is actively involved in international initiatives such as the Chemistry-Climate Model Initiative (CCMI) and the UKCA project.
Scientific Affiliations:Lead Author of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report; member of the Unified Model Global Model Configuration Group; Science Management Group of the UKCA project; Scientific Steering Committee of CCMI; contributor to WMO Scientific Assessments of Ozone Depletion.
