Ola Sigurdson is a Professor of Systematic Theology at the University of Gothenburg's Department of Literature, History of Ideas, and Religion. He holds a prominent academic position with extensive research contributions in theology, philosophy, and cultural studies. His work bridges traditional theological inquiry with continental philosophy, particularly in areas like phenomenology, spatiality, and humor’s role in transcendence.
- Current projects include studies on spatiality in architecture and theology, and a multi-volume work on humor and transcendence.
- Past leadership roles include Director of the Centre for Culture and Health (2011–2017) and Chair of Jonsered Manor’s steering committee since 2017.
Education: PhD in Systematic Theology from Lund University (1996), Docent in Theology (1998), and Professor appointment at Gothenburg (2008).
Research Interests: Embodiment in theology, post-secular theory, spatial theology, and the intersection of humor with religious subjectivity. His monographs include Heavenly Bodies (2006/2016) and the three-volume Divine Comedies (2021).
Awards & Grants: Fellowships at Cambridge (2001–2002), Princeton (2010–2011), and international visiting appointments in Japan, South Africa, and Hong Kong. Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters since 2022.
Teaching & Supervision: Advised five doctoral students and co-supervised four. Active in public lectures, including Göteborg Book Fair participations.
