Ola Nilsson is a Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, Karolinska Institutet. His research focuses on skeletal development, growth disorders, osteoporosis, and cartilage biology. He leads the Growth and Cartilage Biology research group, aiming to translate cellular and molecular insights into clinical treatments for bone and joint disorders.
Education: MD (1998), PhD (2002), and Docent (2011), all from Karolinska Institutet. His work spans over 200 publications, primarily in journals like Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism and Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases.
Research interests include genetic and molecular mechanisms regulating growth plate senescence, FGF23 pathways in X-linked hypophosphatemia, and tissue engineering for cartilage regeneration. He collaborates internationally on registries like the XLH Registry and clinical trials for burosumab.
Key contributions include defining growth reference charts for achondroplasia and identifying genetic mutations linked to skeletal dysplasias. His lab integrates molecular biology, imaging, and clinical studies to address unmet needs in pediatric endocrinology.
