Ofer Rog is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Utah. His research focuses on chromosome biology, particularly the synaptonemal complex (SC) during meiosis, using Caenorhabditis elegans and yeast as model organisms with advanced microscopy techniques.
- Education: B.Sc. & M.Sc. from Tel-Aviv University; Ph.D. from University College London and Cancer Research UK.
Rog's work combines biophysical approaches, live-cell imaging, and genome editing to unravel the structural and functional dynamics of the SC. His lab investigates how this conserved protein complex regulates chromosome alignment, crossover patterning, and genetic exchange during sexual reproduction.
Recent research trends highlight his exploration of the SC's liquid crystalline properties, protein homeostasis mechanisms, and diffusion-based signaling. His studies also address evolutionary conservation of SC components and novel methods for chromosome conformation analysis.
Rog's publications demonstrate expertise in meiotic recombination regulation, DNA repair pathways, and protein interaction networks within the SC. His methodologies integrate biochemical, genetic, and computational approaches to address fundamental questions in chromosome biology.
