Dr. Obasesam Okoi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Justice and Society Studies at the University of St. Thomas. He holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Manitoba, with expertise in natural resource conflicts, peacebuilding, and post-conflict reconstruction in Africa.
His research examines the intersection of resource governance, conflict resolution, and sustainable development, with particular focus on Nigeria's oil-producing regions. Dr. Okoi investigates how environmental factors, technology, and inequality shape conflict dynamics and peace processes.
Analysis of Dr. Okoi's publications reveals a consistent focus on conflict resolution in resource-rich African contexts, particularly examining youth insurgency transformation, environmental justice, and post-conflict governance challenges. Recent work develops theoretical frameworks for understanding sustainable peace in resource-dependent regions.
Dr. Okoi convenes leadership summits in Nigeria to foster critical consciousness and has contributed to global policy responses addressing COVID-19 impacts on vulnerable populations through the University of Pennsylvania's Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program.
