Núria Montserrat Pulido

Núria Montserrat Pulido serves as Minister for Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya while maintaining her position as an ICREA Research Professor leading the Pluripotency for Organ Regeneration group at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC). Born in Barcelona in 1978, she bridges high-level government service with cutting-edge scientific research in regenerative medicine.

Dr. Montserrat is internationally recognized for her pioneering work in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, particularly through the development of mini-organs (organoids) to understand human tissue formation and diseases of genetic and systemic origin. Her research has significant potential applications in personalized medicine. She has published approximately 100 scientific papers and has been invited to present at over 400 scientific and socioeconomic forums worldwide.

Her scientific excellence has been recognized with prestigious awards:

• 2021 National Research Award for Young Talent from the Generalitat de Catalunya
• EMBO Young Researcher Award (2020)
• Elected member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors

Before becoming Minister, Dr. Montserrat held significant leadership roles including deputy director of the Barcelona Center for Regenerative Medicine and deputy director of clinical translation at IBEC. She was selected as Commissioner of the Biennial City and Science of Barcelona (2019) and served on CORICAT (Council for Research and Innovation of Catalonia), advising the government on strategic science and innovation decisions. She is particularly noted for her scientific communication skills and mentorship of women in research.
