Nushrat Nazia is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo, supervised by Charmaine Dean. Her work focuses on spatial epidemiology and spatiotemporal analysis of infectious diseases, with a particular emphasis on urban outbreaks like Toronto's 2020-2023 COVID-19 cases and rural cholera dynamics in Bangladesh. Her research integrates Bayesian hierarchical modelling, geographic information systems (GIS), and socioeconomic determinants to inform public health interventions.
Key research areas include: spatial transmission patterns, risk area prioritization, demographic vulnerability analysis, and methodological advancements in disease mapping. Her current postdoctoral appointment runs from February 2023 to January 2025.
Her recent publications emphasize the interplay between urban demographics, spatiotemporal clusters, and public health response strategies for highly transmissible diseases. Earlier work includes foundational studies on cholera in Bangladesh using geostatistical techniques like Poisson kriging.
