Nuriye Pekcan is an Assistant Professor in the Nursing Department at Uskudar University's Faculty of Health Sciences, where she also serves as Vice Head of the Nursing Department. Originally from Bulgaria, she moved to Turkey in 1991 and completed her nursing education at Marmara University. With over two decades of experience in women's health nursing, she has transitioned from clinical practice in hospitals to academic roles, bringing rich practical experience to her teaching and research.
Dr. Pekcan's educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marmara University (1999)
- Master's Degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing from Marmara University (2003)
- Doctorate in Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing from Marmara University (2011)
Dr. Pekcan's research focuses extensively on women's health across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. Her work examines healthy and high-risk pregnancies, prenatal education, childbirth experiences, postpartum depression, and women's mental health. She has conducted significant research on infertility, gynecological health, breastfeeding practices, family planning, and menopause. Recently, her research has expanded to include studies on women's health during the COVID-19 pandemic, examining impacts on sexual health and healthcare access.
Her publication record shows a consistent focus on practical nursing applications in women's health, with recent work addressing contemporary challenges like pandemic impacts on healthcare delivery, traditional and complementary medicine practices, and nursing education innovations. She has published in both Turkish and international journals, demonstrating commitment to contributing to the global nursing knowledge base while addressing local healthcare contexts.
Dr. Pekcan actively mentors graduate students, supervising numerous master's theses on diverse women's health topics. She has received research funding, including a TUBITAK student project on the relationship between perceived social support and self-esteem in women undergoing gynecological surgery.
As an administrator, she serves as Vice Head of the Nursing Department (2025-present), participates in quality committees, student advisory roles, and various research working groups focused on developing nursing practices and education. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on Women's Health and Diseases Nursing, Perinatology Nursing, and Healthy Life Processes.
