Nuria Lopez-Ortega is a Professor and Director of Curriculum in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL) at the University of Cincinnati. She serves as Assistant Department Head and coordinates the Basic Spanish Program. Her academic roles include teaching Spanish language (all levels) and Spanish Linguistics, alongside administrative leadership in curriculum design, faculty training, and program coordination.

Her research focuses on second language acquisition (SLA), language pedagogy, and technology integration in language education. She has published materials for Spanish language teaching and presented internationally on topics like intercultural competence and online language program development.
Awards include the ACTFL First-Time Attendee Scholarship (2013) and Study Abroad Institute Completion Award (2013). She has led workshops on teaching strategies, served on academic committees, and reviewed for peer institutions and publishers.
Lopez-Ortega has coordinated large-scale programs such as the Basic Spanish Program, mentored graduate teaching assistants, and developed online language resources. She also contributed to the University Study-Abroad Consortium (USAC) in Spain as a Visiting Professor (2011).
