Nuria Capdevila-Arguelles

Professor Nuria Capdevila-Argüelles is a leading scholar in Hispanic Studies and Gender Studies at the University of Exeter, where she holds a full professorship in the Department of Languages, Cultures and Visual Studies. Her research revitalizes Spain's pre-Francoist feminist legacy, recovering erased women writers and artists through critical editions and biographical scholarship. She has published extensively, including award-winning monographs such as Autoras inciertas (2008) and El regreso de las modernas (2018), and directs the audiovisual project CartasVivas. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she has held prestigious fellowships including the Queen Sofía Junior Research Fellowship (1999–2002) at Oxford University. Her interdisciplinary work bridges literary analysis, feminist theory, and cultural memory studies.

Education includes a Licenciatura in Philology from the University of León (1995), followed by MSc and PhD in Hispanic Studies from the University of Edinburgh.
