Nur Kurtoglu-Hooton is a Senior Lecturer at Aston University's Research Centre for the Humanities, affiliated with the Aston Centre for Applied Linguistics (ACAL) and the Department of English, Languages and Applied Linguistics. She has worked at Aston since 1994, holding leadership roles including Director of the MA TESOL program (2005–2015) and Director of Undergraduate English Language Programs (2015–2020). She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses including 'Theory and Practice of ELT' and 'Technology in Teaching and Learning.'
Her qualifications include a PhD in Applied Linguistics (Aston University, 2010), an MSc in Teaching English (Aston, 1992), and a BA in English Language and Literature (Hacettepe University, Turkey, 1983). She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her research focuses on teacher education, particularly feedback mechanisms in师范教育, discourse analysis, and identity formation. Key areas include the impact of post-observation feedback on student teachers and the role of critical reflection in professional development. She has published widely on these topics, including books like *Confirmatory Feedback in Teacher Education* (2016) and articles in *ELT Journal*.
She has served as an External Examiner for MA TESOL programs at the University of Manchester (2015–2019) and York St John University (2012–2016). Her professional activities include invited talks on topics such as virtual action research in language teaching and 21st-century language learner profiles.
Dr. Kurtoglu-Hooton supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and provides PhD supervision. She has contributed to media discussions on topics like runners' self-representation on social media and critical incident analysis in education.
