معرفی
Lara Nugues is a doctoral student at the Department of French Linguistics and Literature at the University of Basel, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. Her research focuses on the history and poetics of the French theater genre vaudeville (1830-1835) within the SNSF PRIMA project Le Rire des vers – Mining the Comic Verse, supervised by Prof. Dr. Anne-Sophie Bories.
She investigates the interplay between musical and poetic demands on verse in theatrical contexts, mechanisms of humor, and the underrecognized genre of vaudeville. Her methodology combines computer-assisted distant reading (statistical analysis of a digitized corpus) and traditional close reading approaches, integrating score analysis, literature-history relationships, and theater studies. Her work aims to expand the poetic canon and analyze humor through interdisciplinary frameworks.
Active in collaborations, Lara co-presented at the Plotting Poetry 5 - Popular Voices conference (Tartu, 2022) with Nils Couturier on Constructing a TIMBRE Database, exploring popular tunes in poetry. She also presented solo works on vaudeville corpus formatting and gender dynamics in humor at conferences in Craiova (2022) and Paris (2022). Her research bridges computational methods with traditional literary analysis.
