Professor Dieter Ebert is affiliated with the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Basel within the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences. He leads the FG Ebert research group focusing on experimental zoology and evolution, with particular emphasis on host-parasite interactions and coevolutionary dynamics.
His research interests span evolutionary biology, host-parasite coevolution, genetic diversity mechanisms, and infection biology. Ebert's work combines experimental approaches with genomic analyses to understand how hosts and pathogens evolve in response to each other.
Recent publications reveal a strong focus on genomic aspects of host-pathogen relationships, with particular attention to genetic diversity maintenance, infection strategies, and molecular mechanisms of host resistance. His 2024-2025 preprints demonstrate ongoing research in microsporidia phylogeny, epigenetic modifications, and collagen-like proteins in pathogen virulence.
Current research projects include 'Coevolution and the maintenance of high genetic diversity regions in host and parasite genomes' (ongoing), 'EpiEcoEvo: The role of temperature and transmission route on parasite epidemiological, ecological and evolutionary dynamics' (completed), and 'A genomic perspective on host-parasite coevolution' (completed).
