Dr. Nrusingh C. Biswal is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology. With expertise in proton therapy, optical imaging, and tumor hypoxia, he focuses on improving clinical safety, workflow efficiency, and therapeutic response assessment through advanced imaging techniques.
- PhD in Electrical Engineering (University of Connecticut, 2010)
- Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency (Rush University Medical Center, 2015)
His research explores:
- Molecular Imaging for tumor microenvironment characterization
- Image-guided proton therapy optimization
- Imaging and treatment of tumor hypoxia
- Combination of proton therapy with deep thermal hyperthermia
Recent publications emphasize adaptive planning indicators, dosimetric accuracy in proton therapy, and FLASH radiation modeling. Awards include the MHRD Scholarship (2001), DoD pre-doctoral award (2006), and multiple travel grants for scientific conferences.
He has led AAPM multi-institutional journal clubs and contributed to innovations in radiation safety, quality assurance phantoms, and cancer nanotherapy. His laboratory work integrates optical imaging, radiation physics, and machine learning for cancer diagnosis.
