Norrisa Haynes, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and an affiliated faculty member at the Yale Institute for Global Health. She specializes in treating heart conditions such as heart failure, structural heart disease, and atherosclerosis, utilizing advanced diagnostics like chest CT scans and myocardial biopsies. Her research interests include integrating artificial intelligence into cardiovascular care and enhancing diagnostic capacity in low-resource settings.
Dr. Haynes earned her MD from Columbia University and an MPH from Harvard University. She completed residency at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and a cardiology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Her global health initiatives include co-founding Global MedEd, a nonprofit providing cardiovascular medical education in low-income countries, and spearheading the SHARP initiative in Philadelphia during the pandemic to support safe reopening of salons and barbershops. She also contributed to building clinical capacity in Haiti through Partners in Health.
At Yale, she teaches echocardiography and collaborates on community-based programs like blood pressure management in New Haven’s barber shops. Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, Dr. Haynes emphasizes equitable healthcare access and community-driven solutions to health disparities.
