Noreen Tompkins, PharmD, is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy. She holds dual roles in academic administration and clinical practice, specializing in antimicrobial stewardship and infectious disease management. Her career spans over three decades, including leadership roles in residency programs and clinical pharmacy services at institutions like Allegheny Health Network and Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Tompkins earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Southern California in 1990, followed by specialty training in anti-infective therapy at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on optimizing antibiotic use, reducing healthcare-associated infections, and improving clinical outcomes through evidence-based practices.
Her work emphasizes antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP), contributing to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital achieving California’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll gold-level status in 2022. Key research interests include evaluating antibiotic efficacy, managing hospital-acquired infections, and advancing clinical guidelines for pneumonia, skin infections, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Her publications highlight studies on adverse drug events, procalcitonin-guided therapy, and interventions to improve antibiotic prescribing practices. Collaborations with multidisciplinary teams have driven quality improvements in infection control and patient care.
