Norbert Kroo

Norbert Kroo is a distinguished academic and researcher affiliated with the Budapest University of Technology, where he has held the position of Professor since 1991. Additionally, he served as a Research Professor at Eötvös Loránd University (1980) and directed the Solid State Physics Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1981–1998). He is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (since 1993) and currently holds advisory roles for the EU and several EU countries (Germany, Finland, Ireland), as well as the Executive Chairman position at the iASK Advisory Board (since 2021).

• Research Focus: His work spans material sciences, optics (including surface plasmon, quantum, and laser physics), neutron physics, and solid state physics, with a strong emphasis on science policy.
• Leadership Roles: Past President of the European Physical Society (1993–95) and Hungarian Physical Society (1985–90); Vice President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2005–2011); Chairman of the ESF Committee on Large Facilities (since 1996).
• Honors: Recognized with the Wallis E. Lamb Award (USA) and the Commander of the Order of the Lion (Finland).
