Norbert Götz is a Professor at the Institute of Contemporary History, Södertörn University, Sweden. His research spans humanitarianism, moral economy, global civil society, and conceptual history, with regional focus on the Baltic Sea region, Nordic countries, and Central/Eastern Europe.
- Key Projects: Reimagining Norden in an Evolving World (ReNEW) (NordForsk 2018–2024), Civil Society without Boundaries: Nordic Humanitarianism Facing the Biafra Crisis (Swedish Research Council 2022–2024).
- Leadership: Organiser of the Fifth Nordic Challenges Conference (2022), Swedish representative in ReNEW steering, and affiliated with the Swedish Graduate School of History and Association for Political History.
Research Themes include humanitarian ethics, NGO evolution, mental mapping, and Nordic political culture. His work often bridges historical and contemporary analysis, such as examining the UN’s role in regional identity and openness in Nordic governance.
Scientific Awards include the Hans Rosenberg Memorial Prize (Friedrich Ebert Foundation) for his dissertation and the 15th Annual Scholarship Award from the Swedish Women’s Educational Association International (SWEA). He has edited influential volumes on moral economy, mental maps, and Nordic self-understanding.
