Nora Mitchell

Nora Mitchell serves as Associate Professor in the Biology Department at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire since 2024, having advanced from Assistant Professor (2019-2024). Her research program investigates evolutionary mechanisms across diverse plant systems including Upper Midwest sunflowers (Helianthus), North American poplar (Populus), and South African Protea.

Her educational foundation comprises a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut and a B.A. in Biology from Williams College. Current research integrates phylogenetics, population genetics, and hybridization dynamics within both temperate and tropical ecosystems, with recent fieldwork in Belize.

Dr. Mitchell's scientific recognition includes:

• NSF BRC-BIO award (~$294,000) for "Understanding the Role of Species Interactions in Evolutionary Radiations Through the Evolution of Non-flying Mammal Pollination in Protea"
